If you can guess by my post--- yes I am getting ready to start week 8, which would mark the halfway point for the 16 weeks of training. With a little tinkering of times and such... I would say I have made week 7 a perfect week!! All exercises were accounted for, and while some times were a little off being able to have the energy to tackle them all this week, was a pretty big deal for me.
Weeks 6 and 7 have had their challenges. The swim time amped up from 45 to 75 minutes (eek!). However, I was changing the style of swimming strokes I was doing to get out my swimming rut, but alas, I know I had to keep making sure that freestyle is the one I used the most. I figured out the key though is to just alternate between freestyle and breaststroke. Those probably will be the ones I will use while trying to slash through a 1.2 mile swim. The only other obstacle that I need to tackle during this training is actually hitting a lake for some open swimming. If you can believe it, there's not really many options for open water swimming .
If you are thinking, 'well there's the Susquehanna!' my comment would be, 'really, the Susquehanna? do you want me to drown??'
So that knocks out that option. The next one you are probably going to tell me is Mount Gretna. WELL, that would be perfect if not for the simple $16 you have to pay to swim there. It's also really crowded... while I have thought to myself to just swim outside of the beach area, I have a feeling that those people wouldn't be to happy.
Now I am not complaining here ... but really I have limited options. After google searching though... my best bet is to either go to Swatara Creek and well my race site, Pinchot Park. I'll let you know how they are once I go there.
Now moving onto the other obstacle, and that's fixing my bike. Yes, my road bike has sustained a boo-boo. The back tire went flat, and I felt like it all of a sudden happened. I traditionally take my bike out 3 or 4 times a week, and Saturday much to my dismay, I found it flat as a pancake. UGH! The worst part is that it's the back tire!! I can't just detach it to figure out my problem, so extra leg-work for me! At least the bike's injury didn't ruin my training schedule. I busted out Green girl and took her for an overdue trip. She was perfect after some air in her tires. So for the next week here... she's going to be my go to for the bike workouts.
Week 6 and 7 are pretty uneventful and while week 8 would look that way (Friday and Sunday are workout free!!) I have decided to switch biking times and complete the longest bike ride/run workout in my training to this Saturday, I am really hoping I can last!!
For those who are actually reading to this, I have fully started my campaign for raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (where my race proceeds go to) and I need your help!! I am just asking for $1 donations. So trade in that one iced coffee from Dunkin' or Starbucks, and donate it to people who need it!!!
Thanks and as always-- get out and move!!!
